I hate to admit it, but I’ve made this mistake more than once. And I know I’m not alone. For multiple Januaries, I’ve tried taking on challenges like Whole30 or 75 Hard. Ugh. Thankfully I’ve moved on from them and would go as far as to say I’m anti Whole 30 and 75 Hard.

So if you’re considering doing a Whole30 or 75 Hard this year, let me gently suggest: don’t do it. And I’m gonna tell you why (and what to do instead).

First, I hate this phrase, but I’m not gonna yuck someone’s um. So I won’t pretend that these challenges don’t work for some people; maybe some even enjoy the process. But I’m not one of them, and neither are any of the moms I’ve worked with. And no matter how successful a person is at doing the challenge, the lifestyle is not sustainable long term (which means any results are also not sustainable).

The number one reason I’m anti Whole 30 or 75 Hard

Moms often take on challenges like these because they promise control, structure, and accountability—a combination that feels like it’s saying “I’ve got you mama, you don’t have to think about what to do, here’s the rules all you gotta do is follow it.”

That is a lie.

Instead of creating sustainable habits and providing structure you don’t have to figure out yourself, these challenges take away the very things that make healthy living doable: joy, convenience, and sustainable long-term results.

After my PCOS diagnosis, struggles with infertility, and tbh, a long list of other challenges, I thought I needed strict rules and structure to “buckle down” and finally “get my shit together.” PCOS and infertility don’t have clear solutions. It’s physically and emotionally draining to try and “fix” yourself but not have a clear answer to solve the problem.

Doing the Whole 30 and 75 Hard felt like I was taking real, structured, and validated action. If I could get my shit together and stick to this challenge, I would finally have the control and success over SOMETHING.

But those challenges didn’t deliver. None of the times I tried them.

Instead, they left me feeling hangry, frustrated, and, worst of all, like a failure.

Sound familiar?

Here’s the truth I finally realized: you can feel in control, have structure, and reach your goals without making your life miserable.

I know this because I’ve achieved it for myself and for dozens of other moms I’ve worked with.

So, what should you do instead? Let me break it down for you.

2 Steps to Reach Your Goals (Without the Misery)

1. Add ONE Small Habit to Your Daily Routine

Focusing on one small habit is far easier (and more effective) than overhauling your entire lifestyle or quitting everything at once.

Start with something so simple it feels almost silly.

Here 10+ actions you can take:

  1. Add one serving of vegetables to your lunch or dinner.
  2. Go to bed 30 minutes earlier than usual.
  3. Put your phone down earlier in the evening.
  4. Take a short walk during your lunch break.
  5. Drink a glass of water first thing in the morning.
  6. Do a 5-minute morning stretch or mobility routine.
  7. Pack a balanced snack for yourself when packing your kids’ lunches.
  8. Replace one sugary drink with water or herbal tea.
  9. Spend 5 minutes tidying up a space before bed.
  10. Set a timer for 10 minutes of movement.
  11. Write down three things you’re grateful for at the end of the day.
  12. Add a source of protein to your breakfast..
  13. Stand or walk while on phone calls.
  14. Set a daily alarm as a reminder to take a deep breath and relax your shoulders.

These small habits build up over time. They might seem insignificant now, but the momentum they create is powerful.

2. Capitalize on Your #NewYearNewYou Energy by Working with a Coach

Accountability, guidance, and a plan tailored to your life can make all the difference.

While I’d love to work with you, I’m not just talking about hiring me. Maybe you need an in-person trainer, a dietitian, or another expert who aligns with your goals.

Working with a coach is the fastest and most effective way to achieve lasting results.

If you’re wondering whether the Fit & Flourishing Program—my signature offer—might be the right fit for you, ask yourself the following:

  • Are you a mom (and likely the “default parent”) with little time for yourself?
  • Do you want to start exercising but feel unsure about what to do or how to begin?
  • Is outdoor time and adventure important to you and your kids?
  • Do you want your clothes to fit better, to feel less exhausted, and to provide your family with healthy meals—but feel overwhelmed by the effort?

If any of these resonate, it’s worth having a conversation.
